The food is okay. Decent sized portions. The price is somewhat high. It takes forever to get your food. I don't care if they say it's "homemade". It took way too long to get it. I was there so long I heard the same music twice. The bartender, who was a young man, didn't seem to think his job was very important. I dont really think I would go here again unless I want the Calamari, it was awesome.

I absolutely love this place. They are by far my favorite Italian restaurant. I have been going here for years but recently I stopped going as much. The service is lacking. The last time I ate here it took us over 2 hours to complete our meal. We waited for our food for a significant amount of time and when we were done our waiter never came around to take our plates or give us the bill. Our busboy noticed we were waiting for a long time and getting impatient and told our waiter. When we finally paid we had to wait for change and again our waiter was not to be seen. The busboy again took it for us and gave it to the waiter to help us get on our way. If it was up to me, I would not of tipped our waiter instead the busboy deserved it all. I recommend this place if you want good Italian food but you need to have a lot of patients and a lot of time to spend.

You wouldn't really stop to notice it from the outside ... but once you get inside, you are hooked! The food is delicious. You can tell it is homemade. It is so quaint and romantic - and it's nice when they have live music! My husband and I love going there whenever we can and enjoying a nice quiet Italian meal that isn't from a chain restaurant. I highly recommend!

If you are looking for really good Italian food at decent prices, you've just found the place. The decor is nothing special, the joint is in an unappealing strip mall, if you come on the weekends you may be subject to live crooner music that appeals to the rather older crowd, yet the service is impeccable and the food is worth it. They have a nice selection of wine, good choices of pasta dishes, veal, chichen, fish. If they happen to have osso bucco on special that day, you absolutely have to get it just don't weigh yourself the next day, the meat is melting in the mouth and the tomato sauce is delicious. Lastly, don't forget to save some space for tiramisu.

I never knew about this restaurant until my good friend raved about it and insisted I join her for dinner there. I had such a great experience that I've brought my parents and had a wine night with the girls. The ambiance, decor and energy emanate itself when you walk in. You feel relaxed and never rushed throughout your meal. It felt like I was in Italy again, sitting outside in the piazza. The food is authentic, home-made with tasteful zest. I've had the veal, salmon and bistecca (steak) so far, all of which we tender and melted perfectly in your mouth. The family knows their wines and has a great Cabernet Sauvignon, highly recommended. Our waiter always checked in on us. Even the family came to mingle and ask about our meals. I was excited to learn that they even started a "gluten-free" option with their pasta dishes. This restaurant displays a beautiful fish tank with bright, vibrant colors and beautiful fish & coral. That is a great focal point for conversation and relaxation, combined with the great background music provided by a piano player/singer.

Timeline We were hungry drove by and said, let's go there. 1. My girlfriend ordered Prosecco, the waiter just dropped it off with the cork in it. Strange, I ended up taking the cork off. 2.We ordered baked clams they were ok, nothing special. 3.The salad came out, it was great, as well as the cod vegetable soup. 4.I noticed the owner was dancing in the front while there was live entertainment, not a big deal but her restaurant started turning into a circus. The waiter slipped and fell out the door with all food flying to the floor. Then she suggest to put soap on the floor to clean it, literally 2 minutes later same waiter coming out the door wipes out again with food in hand. 5. I noticed that many customers seemed bitter, their wait times on their entrees are really long, almost 40 minutes after salad. The people behind us never got there salad they were a little upset. 6. Get rid of the fish tank, also don't have your immediate family come in with babies and stand in front of the fish tank, talk loud and irritate the customers when their trying to dine and talk. I remember watching this lady (family member I assume) swinging her baby in front of the fish tank and moving her body around making the guy at the table very uncomfortable, 7. The reason i gave the restaurant 2 stars is because the chicken Marsala I had was excellent. The food was great. 8. I ordered a artichoke salad to go and it took 25 minutes, for a side salad. 9.The tiramisu was excellent. 10. The place was really strange and made me feel uncomfortable, the food was good though, maybe if I lived in the area I might go back, it is just really strange.

There was 6 of us that went here for a birthday party for my nephew. We were the only people in the restaurant at 6pm. We ordered at 615 and didnt get our food till 710. The salad I had was sad, only iceburg lettuce with 1 red onion ring and a few shredded carrots. No tomato no cucumber. Very sad. We asked for another bread basket, because with 3 young men they went thru it like water, and we had to ask twice, it was almost like they wanted us to forget about the bread. We had to ask for refills on the cokes, it seemed like they were gettign upset because we were cutting into their profit margin on the coke. I ordered chicken parm, my mistake for not looking at the menu, but I had to pay extra for pasta. I thought that the 14.95 I paid for the chicken parm would include it, but I guess I was wrong. The food was OK about the same quality as Olive Garden. Total bill was 120.00 for six people and there was no alcohol on the bill. Theres alot better places out there for a better price and quality.

We had Marino's / La Zingara cater our daughter's college graduation party and it was exceptional. My brother-in-law said it was the best Italian beef he'd ever had. And they provided great value for the money. Nearly twice as much food as i would've gotten from Portillo's for the same price. And even though their restaurant doesn't open until dinner on Saturday, they accommodated a 1pm delivery without complaint or additional charge. Truly a wonderful local establishment I'm really happy to support.

Hidden gem. Pleasing ambiance. Delicious food. Fresh hot rolls & bread sticks. Reasonably priced. Good sized portions. Lots of options - including specials. Certificates to LaZingara make the best gifts of all. Make your tummy happy and dine here.

Love to visit this nice locally owned italian eatery that has good food. Their are many italian places to go to, but La Zingara has a good food and a sicilian atmosphere especially with Ziggy the musician playing italian favorites in the backround, be sure to give him a good tip for his singing.

We went there for our four year anniversary. We had been there before and remembered it being exceptional. Not this time. So disappointed. It took 40 minutes for bruschetta. RIDICULOUS. Even the waitress admitted as such. After that, we got a mediocre salad with a few onions and carrots with lukewarm bleu cheese dressing. We were one of two tables! After another 40 minutes our dinner came out. My husband ordered the gnocchi and it came with this weird gray tasteless sauce. My eggplant parmiagiana was decent-but the cheese wasn't even melted. The table next to us had ordered way before us and was extremely upset that it was taking so long to get their orders, too. After mentioning our curiousity as to why it was taking so long, our wiatress said the cook was tired from catering a wedding that day, and that since everything was handmade, we had to wait. She didn't comp us anything. It's a shame-the place used to be good, now it's just irritating. Never again.

Dinner at a place like this shouldn't take two hours! My wife and I had dinner here recently and were very disappointed with the service. The waitress/hostess was nice enough, but whoever was back in the kitchen took their own sweet time preparing our mediocre meals. We started off with calamari. We knew we might be in trouble when the plate arrived...stinking to high heaven of old fish. We ate it anyway, as the smell dissapated. The calamari wasn't the worst we ever had, but it was far from the best. Salads arrived next. The lettuce and the veggies were fresh, so maybe the restaurant was about to redeem itself for the below average calamari? Nope. I timed it. We arrived at 6:30 and the main course was set in front of us at 7:38! I ordered the veal saltimbocca and my wife ordered the salmon. We could only surmise that the kitchen staff was somewhere on Lake Michigan catching the salmon, or at the stockyard slaughtering the veal, owing to the extended time it took to prepare our meals. The entrees weren't bad, again, we've had worse, but we've certainly had better, and the time it took to get the plates on our table certainly didn't make our entrees worth the wait. Fast forward to the time we ordered some dessert and coffee and waited for the check, and yes, we left the restaurant at 8:30...two hours! I can see spending this kind of time at Alinea, or Charlie Trotter's...but this is far from "fine dining". This would be a great place to have a first date. The slow service would allow time for the couple to meet, chat, propose, get married, and have a baby, all before dessert! The restaurant needs help...in the kitchen and in the dining room! Unless you have a LOT of time to kill (you probably should get a hobby), I cannot recommend this place. Sorry.

Most of the reviews are correct, place has slow service. There is definitely a higher priority set on carry out and other things. Just know this when you go here and your expectations will be met. The food is pretty good, but maybe not for the price currently. We think all of the people have been very nice, and like to frequent when we have the time to kill.

Tried this with the family and was very dissatisfied. All the comments about slow service are spot on. The food is just ok at best. The marinara sauce is salty and too acidic. When there are only 5 tables of customers, you shouldn't have to wait so long for food or anything (including to ask 2 separate people for the check). Save yourself the time and find another place for Italian food.

Would not go back. Had always passed this place thinking it would be a cute hole in the wall. The service was horrible and slow and the food was just OK. Scallop appetizer had that tendon still attached that you are supposed to remove. All dishes, including salad needed salt. Spaghetti Carbonara was delicious, but that was about it. Unimpressed with the hard rolls as well, although the breadsticks were good. I was really hoping for something more.

My wife and I have lived a mile from this place for 8 years. From the outside, it looks very unassuming. The restaurant is part of a strip center at the corner of Rand and Camp McDonald Rds (the map shows it west of Waterman, it is actually on the east side of Waterman). With the diners clearly visible from the street. I think this is the reason we were never drawn to it. It seemed more like a cafe, than a dinner restaurant. One evening, when reviewing our choice of standard franchise restaurant options, of which we'd tired, we decided that it was time to check this place out. We went one weekday evening. The dining room is small, and the atmosphere is very open (what with the big glass display window and all). The furnishings are pleasant and tasteful. However, much to our surprise, they had a very talented keyboardist providing instrumental dinner music. He pleasantly reprised some Italian standards (Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and the like), as well as some well known 60s era standards (a la "Girl From Ipanema"). We were seated promptly, and given just a few minutes to review the menu before being served by the waiter. He took our drink order, and asked if we cared for any appetizers. I ordered some brushchetta. Immediately, a bus boy was on hand to fill water glasses. The bruschetta arrived, and shortly after the waiter reappeared to take our order. I don't recall at this time what either my wife or I ordered, but the waiter took our order efficiently, and again left. When dinner arrived, I was impressed by the large portions. But when I tasted the dinner, I felt the full impact of regret for having not tried this restaurant sooner. The food was exceptional. Overall, the atmosphere was pleasant and fun, the service was friendly and professional, the food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable given the overall quality. As a result of our positive experience, we've made arrangements to visit here to celebrate my mother-in-laws birthday, with in-laws and offspring in tow.

So... I have not been as frequent as I had promised... but I think it will change... It was warm enough to eat outside tonight, and as a rite of spring, I inaugurated the seasonal change with eating alfresco at lunch AND dinner today... being a nice variance to fluctuations of rain and snow thats have been this crazy 2014 season. Okay enough about the weather... sheesh. When I thought about eating outside tonight, it made me remember the leisurely Mediterranean style dining I last had here back in 2012... it had been all about conversation and relaxation... and enjoying the momentl... The food was just as good as I remembered, the service was entertaining and even BETTER... "Tanya" who looks and speaks like she is Italian or maybe Brazilian... but claims she is Bulgarian... was hilarious with her wildly enthusiastic and emphatic recommendations... so fun. The owner also came out a few times and chatted with is as well, in between her supervision of the dozens of homemade pizzas that kept being picked up like kids at daycare... apparently freshly made to order, handmade dough and restaurant quality sausage... cause a weekly frenzy...Note to self... TRY this pizza. Skateboarders and wild Huskies and traffic add a little noise entertaining background noise as the sun sets... and you suddenly realize its been 3 hours since you sat down... and got talked into coffee and beignets with chocolate sauce even though you were stuffed after the entree. Really like this place... the people working here seem to enjoy it too. And that makes warm fuzzies all around... dig supporting local family businesses.

Great atmosphere, amazing staff. What really got me was the flavors of the food. I'm telling you everything tastes so fresh and hot off the grill. The owners were very friendly and came out to check on us. 5 stars this place is a must!

We recently moved to the area and were excited to try this place. Unfortunately, we stood at the hostess stand for over 5 minutes and never once saw anybody who could seat us. Nor were there any wait staff anywhere in sight, so we left. I hope the food is better than the service, but I don't think we'll be going back to find out.

Very disappointed. Had the cheese ravioli with aged brandy, no hint of brandy, very dry and gluey. The flavor was bland, no depth what so ever. Did I mention that the salad was soaked in dressing and that the bread was the sister of Little Ceasa's. I felt robbed. My husband's was better but not worth a return. We were equally not satisfied. Maybe it was a rare bad night but we will not give it another chance. We have had some good meals and good times there, so sad.

We went here for a ladies dinner. Everything was great. Thay have a very nice wine selection, their portions are huge and decently priced. My only complaint is really small, the lettuce in our salads was frozen, like a green flake of ice.

I'm going to keep this short because I would confuse any reader just as much as I was confused by my experience here. It was a circus, and I'm not just referring to the clownfish. Food: Pretty decent. I had the giombotta and I really liked the tomato sauce on it. Way too much chicken compared to sausage but I didn't ultimately care as I just wanted to drink that sauce... Whoever commented here that the breadsticks are better than the rolls... Hope you were kidding as the rolls were just breadsticks rolled up. Hence the name. Anyway, they were both forgettable. Oysters rockefeller even more so. Service: Maybe if the bartender spent less time worrying about the obnoxious, out-of-place fish tank, the servers wouldn't have to make their own drinks and would be a bit more attentive. Overall, soooooo slow. Seriously over-priced given the ambiance, service, wait, and quality. I will not return nor recommend, although it pains me to say so, given they seem to mean well.

Really surprised at some of the comments regarding this little gem. I had a group here and the food and the entertainment were excellent. The service was quite attentive and we had a wonderful time. I would highly recommend La Zingara.

Based on my personal opinin: my visit was perfect. I was there with a group. There was italian "comfort"food provided. all was very tasty. They have good choice of wines. The best compliments: our server Tanya. Great personalty, helpful, very sweet. There is plenty of parking in the little strip mall. The sign is bright and very visible off of Rte 12 at night, however in the daylight it might be a little blended in between the stores. The reason for one star less: several reasons actually, all of them kinda small. The ambiance not necessarly great, I guess fine for outskirts of Arlington Hts. The patio could use the real plants, but I think this might be out of the budget for many resaturants nowadays. Before going in there, I checked the place online. The online menu was much smaller then what I saw once at the place. Updating the website is necessary! I ended up having a small dinner before going there. I regreted it later on, as the food I've tried was very good. That is judging of their pizza and hot sausage "letcho" style. A little narrow choice of the healthy foods: I don't think there was one dish actually made of fish. One would expect of Italian restaurant to be serving Pesce.... Updating the menu is in place now, definetly. Healtier, lighter food please. Note: going there, be aware of groups. This is a litlle suburban restaurant. I could see a woman being somewhat annoyed with our barely 8 people gathering. You may want to call ahead and check before you go.

Not impressed. After driving by for years we decided to try it. The atmosphere is a little weird but ok. I'd get rid of that fish tank for sure. And the live entertainment is a bit like being on a cruise ship. The service was fast, however they kept mixing up our food with another table. This happened with both the appetizers and main courses. The salad was nothing special. My hubby enjoyed his spaghetti and meat sauce but my tilapia, which was one of the specials, was terrible! Mushy and gross. The green beans that accompanied it were half hot and half cold. The only redeemable part of the meal was a generous pour of wine! We won't be going back.

All I can say is go for the rizotto. You will be craving it for weeks to come. I took a star off because of the wine selection. Too pricey and not that special. But this place has its good plates. And the service for me and date were fine. I didn't think it took long at all.

Worst experience ever! Went on a rainy Thursday night and there were two other couples in the restaurant. We sat at our table for 20 minutes without anyone taking even our drink order. I guess the staff was overwelmed by the other 4 customers. We got up and walk out. We will never go back. With this level of service this restaurant will be out of business soon.

I remembered the excellent food and friendly waiters, and took my wife for a special occasion. The place has changed. On a week night, there were three or four tables in use. The food took forever. The table near us had to wait even longer. The waitress also used the excuse about catering taking the kitchen's time. I don't care. When I take my wife out for a nice dinner, we want a nice dinner. We won't be back.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
